Caixia Gao

Caixia Gao is a Principal Investigator at the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology (IGDB), Chinese Academy of Sciences. Prior to joining IGDB, she worked as a research scientist at DLF, a global seed company based in Denmark. Her research has received broad international recognition. Her research was recognized as one of the “Breakthroughs of the Year” by Science in 2013, and her work was selected by MIT Technology Review as one of the "10 Breakthrough Technologies" in 2016. She is also the corresponding author of one of the 20 most influential papers selected by Nature Biotechnology for its 20th anniversary in 2016. Her contributions have also been recognized in China's "Top 10 Advances in Science" (2023) and "Top 10 Advances in Life Sciences" (2025). She has been named a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher annually since 2019. Additional honors include the Tencent New Cornerstone Investigator award (2023) and recognition as one of Nature's "Ten Science Stars of China" (2016). In 2025, she was elected as an EMBO Associate Member.
